Ukraine hosts "Bells on the trees" commemorative event to honor children killed in war

On June 4, Ukraine marks the Day of Commemoration of the Children who died during Russia's full-scale aggression.

The Bells event is launched by the initiative of Ukraine's First Lady Olena Zelenska. She called for hanging bells on trees to honor the memory of little Ukrainians.

The Kyiv City Military Administration reported that this action was held in the Darnytsky District of the capital.

Today we must honor the memory of all innocently killed Ukrainian children. This event should become another powerful motivator of our struggle. For life, for the future of Ukraine!, said Serhii Popko, head of the administration.

Ukraine's Ministry of Reintegration reported that the number of children killed by the aggressor country already exceeds the number of days a full-scale war continues.

All war crimes committed by Russia against Ukrainian children will be investigated as a crime of genocide, the ministry emphasized.

Since the beginning of the full-scale war, 1,490 children have been injured. According to the official information of juvenile prosecutors, the official number of children who died is 485.

The latest discovered crimes against children:

  • On June 3, a 2-year-old girl was killed, and five children aged 6 to 17 were injured as a result of a missile fire by the aggressor state in the city of Pidhorodne, Dnipropetrovsk region.
  • On June 3, two boys aged 15 and 16 were wounded after the enemy shelling in the town of Hirnyk, Donetsk region.
