Lithuanian volunteers help setting up bomb shelters in war-torn Kherson
Lithuanian volunteers from the Crown Prince Ostrog Charitable Foundation joined the initiative to arrange storage facilities.
The Kherson regional military administration reported this on Telegram.
Ukraine's southern city of Kherson has been constantly shelled and bombed by Russian forces since they were liberated from a nine-month-long Russian occupation in November 2022. The Russian troops have targeted civilian residential areas, energy, and logistics infrastructure. One of the latest Russian shellings of a railway station, a gas station, a supermarket, and a hypermarket in one area of Kherson on May 3, 2023, killed 23 people and injured 46.
"The Kherson regional military administration, together with international partners, continues to work to arrange shelters where Kherson residents will be able to wait out the next attacks of the Russian army safely. The Lithuanian organization 'Crown Prince Ostrog' assisted with mobile furniture," the statement says.
The furniture provided by the Lithuanian partners is modern, functional, and environmentally safe. They will provide a comfortable space for Kherson people in shelters.
Chairs, benches, beds, and tables are collapsible and assembled without nails. They do not crumble or disintegrate over time, an essential factor in storage conditions.
