Ukraine’s Patriot missile system is at work defending Kyiv with a high rate of success, despite Russia’s claims they destoyed it – Air Force

All the Iskander missiles Russia launched at Kyiv on Monday, May 29, were shot down by the Patriot anti-aircraft missile system.

The spokesman of the Air Force of Ukraine's armed forces, Yuriy Ihnat, reported to Suspilne.

As the colonel explained, the Patriot shot down all the ballistic missiles. This indicates that the complex is whole and intact.

"Yesterday, the Patriot complex worked; all the Iskander-type targets that flew by ballistics were destroyed. Yesterday there was a sudden surprise attack; the enemy tried to catch us by surprise after the night attack on the Kyiv region with Shaheds and cruise missiles of the Kh101-Kh555 type. But our air defense force is reloading, immediately ready, because the enemy is insidious and can strike at any moment," Ihnat said.

On May 30, the Russian mass media reported that, according to their Minister of Defense Sergei Shoigu, the Russian military "in recent days" struck the American Patriot anti-aircraft missile system in Kyiv.

What is known about Patriot in Ukraine

As reported, Russia has changed its tactics of shelling Ukraine and Kyiv in the last month. The invaders are conducting combined attacks with drones and missiles of various types. As of May 30, the capital has suffered 18 attacks since the beginning of the month.

On May 16, a synchronized assault against Kyiv was conducted, resulting in the launching of 6 Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles, 9 Kalibr cruise missiles, and three ballistic missiles over the capital area.

The next day, Russia announced that a Patriot was allegedly destroyed during this attack in Kyiv. However, then the Air Force refused to comment on this information.

At the same time, the USA reported that they would help repair air defense systems. Later, Ihnat stated that destroying the Patriot with one blow was impossible.

On May 18, the Russian Federation made another statement regarding the destruction of the complex. At that time, "5 launchers of the complex were destroyed at once" with a "Kinzhal" missile. However, this information was also denied.

Falling debris caused damage to buildings and cars in various areas of the city. In the Holosiivskyi district, debris fell on a high-rise building. As a result, one person died and four more were hospitalized.
