Russia reaches dead end in Bakhmut while Ukrainian army trying to encircle the city – WSJ

Russia has reached a dead end in Bakhmut and will soon lose it. Meanwhile, Ukrainian defenders are working on the tactical encirclement of the invaders in the city.

The Wall Street Journal writes about that.

As the publication notes, while Russia was fighting for control over the last quarters of Bakhmut, Russian volunteers broke into Russian territory, creating serious problems for Moscow Therefore, Moscow is obliged to transfer military forces from the frontline to the borders in order to ensure safety.

"Our goal is to surround Bakhmut tactically," said the platoon commander of Ukraine's 3rd Assault Brigade, which is conducting a counterattack south of the city.

The publication states that the ten-month storming of Bakhmut led to the total exhaustion of the invaders and deprived them of the chance to advance. The WSJ notes that "Russia is at a dead end" and will soon lose the city it won by butchery.

As of the morning of May 29, the intensity of fighting in the Bakhmut direction has significantly decreased. This was announced by Deputy Head of the Ministry of Defense Hanna Maliar. According to her, the enemy is rotating troops. However, the occupiers are significantly hindered by the shelling of Ukraine's armed forces. Currently, our army still controls the "Litak" district.

The leader of the Wagner Private Military Company  Prigozhin recently managed to report that his mercenaries had captured the city. On May 27, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine announced that the offensive activity of the Russian occupiers in the Bakhmut direction was reduced due to the replacement and regrouping of troops.

The National Security and Defense Council confirmed that the mercenaries of the Wagner PMC are indeed leaving Bakhmut. However, the Ukrainian officials  immediately clarified that these occupiers would still fight against Ukraine.
