Ukraine wins world high jump competition with world record 2.01 meter leap
Ukrainian track and field athlete Yaroslava Mahuchikh won gold in the high jump at the Diamond League stage in Rabat, Morocco.
Mahuchikh improved her world-leading mark in the high jump courtesy of a 2.01m clearance on her first attempt.
The Ukrainian showed the best result of the season in the world. Yaroslava improved her previous result by 1 cm.
It was a pleasure to compete. It was like a mini-Ukrainian Championships because there was competition to qualify for the European Games, said Mahuchikh.
Still only 21, this was the 28th time Mahuchikh had cleared 2.00m or higher in her career, either indoors or outdoors.
Ukrainian Iryna Gerashchenko also staged second with her result of 1.91 m. Yaroslava Mahuchikh defended her title of winner in Rabat. The Ukrainian track and field athlete won the Diamond League in 2022 as well.
Yaroslava Mahuchikh is a Ukrainian track and field athlete specializing in the high jump, bronze medalist of the 2020 Summer Olympic Games, European indoor track and field champion (2021), European junior champion, world, and European junior champion, and world record holder among juniors (group up to 20 years).
