Zelensky honors courage of American soldiers on Memorial Day

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, honored the courage and self-sacrifice of the Americans who defended freedom and thanked the American people for their support provided for Ukraine in resisting the aggression of the Russian Federation.

He said this in a video message to the American people on the occasion of the National Memorial Day.

"On behalf of all Ukrainians, I would like to honor the courage and self-sacrifice of all Americans who stood up and continue to defend freedom. Your freedom stood because of those who fought for it. Our freedom stands because of those who fight for it," the head of state said.

He accentuated that freedom is built upon the heroic commitment of exemplary individuals and the dedication of young citizens in the military to strive to be exemplary and ensure the prosperity of their nation.

Zelensky noted that by remembering the soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the name of freedom, we also remember why we are alive and live the way we like, why our free nations stand.

"It is our duty to teach children that freedom cannot be taken for granted. It is our duty to teach them to be grateful. It is our duty to honor everyone who has given their life in defense of freedom, the noble and free flag of his country and people. Our duty is to remember what price was paid to preserve the light of freedom, despite all the dark times that have come," the President is convinced.

He assured that Ukrainians will always be grateful to the US and every American for "the extraordinary support that helps us reduce Russian tyranny and make it lose in the struggle for freedom."

"My special thanks on this Memorial Day go to all Americans of all ages: sons and daughters, fathers and mothers, brothers and sisters who became warriors, whose strength became the strength of freedom, and who were destined to show the world that freedom will always shine brightly on the hill. May our victory, the victory of Ukrainian soldiers, make this light brighter! God bless America! Glory to Ukraine!" – emphasized Zelensky.

Memorial Day is a US national holiday, celebrated annually on the last Monday of May. This day is dedicated to the memory of American servicepersons who died in all wars and armed conflicts in which the United States participated.

It should be noted that the Parliament of Ukraine established May 8 as the Day of Remembrance and Victory over Nazism in the Second World War.
