Russia prepares “attack” targeting Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant – Ukraine’s intelligence

aUkraine's intelligence announces an upcoming Russian strike to simulate an accident at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) in the nearest hours.

After that, the invaders will announce an emergency leak of radioactive substances.

The occupiers are continuing the nuclear blackmail and terrorism. They are preparing a provocation, namely, an imitation of an attack on the objects of the Zaporizhia nuclear plant with a leak of nuclear materials. For this purpose, Russian forces have already placed tools for the strike on the territory of the ZNPP, the statement says.

After the "attack", Russians plan to call experts of the Rosatom plant to supposedly "fix" the strikes. At the same time, representatives of international structures and organizations, in particular the IAEA, will also be invited.

The purpose of this action is to provoke the international community to conduct a detailed investigation during which all hostilities will be stopped. Thus, the invaders hope to get the desired pause, which will be used to regroup their ranks and stop the Ukrainian counterattack, the intelligence officers summarise.

Russian forces may soon launch such provocations using nuclear materials and chemical weapons along the entire front line in the East and South of Ukraine.

Russian occupation of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant

On March 12, 2022, Russian forces announced their full control of the nuclear plant by the Rosatom facility. However, the station is still in operation by Ukrainian personnel under Russian control.

The Russian military placed military equipment and explosives in the premises of the turbine section of the fourth power unit of the ZNPP.

Enemy forces have recently announced the evacuation of the nearby town of Energodar.

On the night of May 22, the last high-voltage transmission line of Dniprovsk, from which power was supplied to the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhya NPP, was shelled and disconnected.

Regarding this, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi is preparing a new safety plan for the Zaporizhzhia NPP.

The occupiers are trying to use the nuclear power plant as a shield against a possible counteroffensive of Ukraine.
