Solutions to win: Canada donates AIM-9 air defense missiles to Ukraine
Canada will donate 43 short-range AIM-9 air-to-air missiles to Ukraine.
Rubryka reports, citing the press service of the Ministry of Defense of Canada.
What is the problem?
Air defense and proper ammunition are essential for the safety of Ukrainian civilians amid Russia's constant attacks with missiles and kamikaze drones. With each strike, the stock of weapons for Ukraine's defense is depleting, so it always needs reinforcements.
What is the solution?
Ukraine will receive air defense missiles from the reserves of the Canadian Armed Forces.
The ministry also reported that small arms and ammunition delivery announced in April is proceeding according to schedule.
How does it work?
Machine guns, assault rifles, cleaning kits, and magazines have already been delivered to Ukraine, and 1 million rounds of 5.56 mm ammunition and 4,800 assault rifles are scheduled to be delivered in the coming weeks.
All 21,000 small arms and 2.4 million rounds of ammunition are expected to be in Ukraine by summer.
Canada is also expanding its presence in Poland as part of Operation UNIFIER. Five additional Canadian Armed Forces medical instructors will be deployed to Poland to join the seven CAF members already involved in the Canadian Armed Forces Medical Skills Training Program. The expansion of the medical training mission will double the number of potential Ukrainian graduates.
UNIFIER is a joint task force of the Armed Forces of Canada and Ukraine aimed to reform the Ukrainian military. It was launched in 2015. Since then, the CAF has trained more than 36,000 Ukrainian service members in combat tactics and advanced military skills, of which more than 2,400 have completed training.
As Rubryka reported, Ukraine received the first batch of demining equipment purchased by Canada worth more than $16 million.
