Ukrainian designer sheds light on Russia's devastating destruction of historic landmarks in LEGO model of Mariupol water tower
Ukrainian designer Oleksandr Lapyna created a model of the famous building of the war-torn Mariupol, Ukraine, which is occupied by Russian forces.
Oleksandr Lapin says on his Facebook page that, so far, it's just the visualization of the LEGO model and needs the support and approval of the company to come to life, Rubryka reports.
What is the problem?
Russian occupation destroys Ukrainian cities. Many historic buildings fall victim to Russian shelling and missile and drone strikes. As of August 2022, UNESCO has verified 183 cultural sites damaged in Russia's invasion of Ukraine. One of the most revealing is the situation in the temporarily occupied Mariupol, which is practically destroyed by Russian forces.
What is the solution?
A Ukrainian offers to recreate the old water tower in Mariupol in a Lego set to preserve the memory of the building and remind the world of the invincible city that will need support to recover after liberation from Russian occupation.
How does it work?
The project's author asks for support for its development and seeks to collect 10,000 votes to implement his idea in the LEGO company. You can vote to support the initiative here.
"Immerse yourself in the rich history of Mariupol with the famous Old Water Tower. This architectural masterpiece, designed by Viktor Nielsen and completed in 1910, symbolizes the city's past and a testament to its development," the post reads.
Earlier, Rubryka reported that Lego created a series of figurines dedicated to Ukrainian female paramedics and military personnel.
Rubryka also reported that the LEGO company presented the first cubes from recycled plastic bottles.
