Australia imposes sanctions against 21 Russian companies

Australia has introduced new sanctions against Russia due to its war in Ukraine.

The Rosneft oil company, a gold mining enterprise, and a number of banks got included in the list.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Foreign Minister Penny Wong announced financial sanctions and an export ban targeting sectors of economic and strategic importance to Russia.

So, new financial sanctions will apply to 21 organizations and three individuals, in particular:

• the Russian Rosneft oil company;
• subsidiaries of the Rosatom state atomic corporation,  engaged in nuclear research, infrastructure development, and weapons production;
• a Russian company created to "take over" the Zaporizhzhia NPP;
• Polyus PJSC, the largest gold mining company in Russia;
• Severstal PJSC, one of the largest metallurgical companies in Russia;
• defense organizations that support the war launched by Russia;
• five Russian banks operating in the state.

The Australian government will introduce a ban on the export of all machines and spare parts to Russia and territories temporarily controlled by the aggressor country.

The state called on Russia to withdraw its troops from Ukraine and stop the war.

Australia has already imposed sanctions against more than 1,000 individuals and organizations that support Russia's illegal invasion of Ukraine.

Great Britain announced a new powerful package of sanctions against Russia on May 19. The list includes 86 individuals and organizations associated with the energy, metallurgical, defense, transport, and financial sectors.

Britain also announced a ban on the import of diamonds, copper, aluminum, and nickel from Russia.

The US will introduce sanctions against 300 companies associated with Russia. Export restrictions will be imposed on about 70 companies from Russia and third countries.
