Ukrainian air defense destroys all missiles, including six Kinzhals, used by Russia in night attack

On the night of May 16, the Russian army massively and comprehensively attacked Ukraine, including the capital Kyiv again. Ukrainian air defense destroyed all 18 missiles, including six Kinzhal missiles, nine Kalibr, and three ballistic missiles.

According to reports, around 3:30 a.m. on May 16, 2023, Russian invaders attacked Ukraine from the north, south, and east with 18 missiles of various types: air, sea, and land-based.

Russian released the following threats from the six MiG-31K jets:

• six Kh-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles,
• nine Kalibr cruise missiles from ships in the Black Sea,
• three land-based missiles (S-400, Iskander-M).

The forces and means of air defense of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed all missiles.

On the night of May 16, the Russian forces launched attack drones of the Shahed-136/131 type and also conducted aerial reconnaissance with three operational-tactical drones, Orlan-10 and SuperCum.

"All are destroyed!" added the air defense.

Tonight, air defense forces also shot down four cruise missiles fired by the Russian occupiers from the Black Sea over the Mykolaiv region.

The night attack of May 16 is the eighth attack the Russian occupying forces launched on Kyiv since the beginning of May. This time, the Russian troops simultaneously attacked Kyiv from different directions, using UAVs and cruise missiles.

The Kyiv City State Administration reported that the attack was exceptional in its density — the maximum number of attacking missiles in the shortest period of time. The head of the President's Office, Andrii Yermak, reported that the Air Defense was activated.

The air defense was successful in downing threats over the capital, but many fragments of Russian missiles destroyed were scattered all over the city. Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klychko said that fragments of a rocket fell on the territory of the zoo in Kyiv. The head of the capital also later stated that three people were injured due to the attack on Kyiv.
