Reuters: US Attorney General allows confiscation of Russian oligarch's assets for Ukraine's reconstruction

The Attorney General of the United States of America, Merrick Garland, approved the first transfer of the confiscated assets of the sanctioned Russian businessman, Konstantin Malofeev, in favor of the reconstruction of Ukraine.

Rubryka reports, citing Reuters, that according to Garland, this transfer of confiscated Russian funds for the reconstruction of Ukraine "will not be the last."

Last year, the US Department of Justice accused Russian oligarch Konstantin Malofeyev, the founder of Tsargrad TV, an ultra-conservative Orthodox monarchist ideology, of evading sanctions.

At that time, Garland said, he also announced "the seizure of millions of dollars from an account at a U.S. financial institution traceable to Malofeyev's sanctions violations."

American officials concluded that Malofeev financed Russian separatists in the temporarily occupied Crimea.

At the end of November 2022, American prosecutors filed a motion to seize the funds in Malofeev's bank account.

In February 2023, the court allowed the prosecutor's office to confiscate $5.4 million belonging to the oligarch.
