12-year-old Ukrainian gymnast enters Guinness Book of Records for the second time
12-year-old athlete Sofia Tepla from Ukraine's southern Odesa region entered the Guinness Book of Records for the second time. The girl pushed up in a triple gymnastic fold standing on hands only.
The athlete's mother, Maryna Tepla, announced this on Facebook.
"We had to keep the intrigue going for a while because the official representatives of Great Britain very meticulously assessed the performance of the exercise. Finally, the confirmation and presentation of the certificate are here," the woman adds.
There were 23 attempts, the athlete's mother adds, but the first one was not counted. Also, the push-up was determined as incomplete in 16 cases.
But even 21 times, according to Maryna Teploi, is already a lot since the previous world record was 12. The girl can push up about 40 times.
"Sofia is the youngest in Ukraine and the first child to enter the Guinness Book of Records," the record holder's mother added.
What we know about the young athlete
In February 2022, in Italy, Sofia Tepla set a world record: in 10.49 seconds, she overcame a 20-meter contortion roll. She bent her body back until her legs touched her head.
In March 2018, the athlete set a national record for the largest number of acrobatic elements: she performed 111 unique tricks in less than 4 minutes.
