Ukraine's air defense intercepted 23 out of 25 Russian missiles launched on the night of May 9
On the evening of May 9, Ukrainian air defense forces successfully intercepted and destroyed twenty–three of the twenty–five cruise missiles fired by Russian aggressors.

"On the night of the "sacred" day of May 9, the occupiers attacked the territory of Ukraine with sea and air-based cruise missiles. During two waves of shelling of Ukraine, the Russian occupiers launched 25 Kalibr and Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles.
Twenty-three of them were destroyed by the air defense of the Air Force of Ukraine's armed forces, in cooperation with the Defense Forces of Ukraine," the commander of the Air Force emphasized.

The General Staff has reported that at approximately 10:00 p.m. on May 8, the adversary launched eight Kalibr cruise missiles from positions in the Black Sea, which were aimed at the country's eastern regions.
All eight were destroyed by the forces and means of air defense of the Air Command "East."
At approximately 04:00 a.m. on May 9, Russian forces launched seventeen Kh–101/Kh–555 air–based cruise missiles from four Tu–95MS strategic aircrafts situated in the Caspian region.
The air defense forces and means of the "Center" air command destroyed fourteen cruise missiles, and the "South" air command destroyed an additional one in their area of responsibility.
In total, the Ukrainian military destroyed 15 Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles.

On the night of May 8, 2023, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation launched a coordinated missile and drone attack on the territory of Ukraine. This attack involved the use of Shahed–type Iranian attack UAVs, 16 rocket attacks on eastern Kharkiv and southern Kherson, Mykolaiv, and Odesa regions, 61 airstrikes, and 52 rounds from multiple rocket launching systems on the positions of Ukrainian troops and populated areas. The strikes resulted in the deaths and injuries of civilians, as well as damage to a high–rise building, private homes, and other civilian infrastructure.
Furthermore, the Russian aggressors launched a missile strike from strategic aviation planes in Ukraine's southern Odesa region and a drone attack on the capital Kyiv, resulting in further damage to vehicles, residential buildings, windows, facades, and a tank, as well as the injury of five people and a gas leak.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine warns that the probability of further Russian missile and air strikes on the entire territory of Ukraine remains high.
