In Lithuania, 1,600 defenders of Ukraine will undergo training in 2023. The Ministry of Defense of Lithuania announced this.
In the wake of the full–scale war launched by Russia against Ukraine, Lithuania has shown unwavering support for the Ukrainian people. Despite its relatively small size, the nation has made total commitments totaling 0.486 billion euros, an impressive 0.926% of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Of this, 0.061 billion euros has been dedicated to humanitarian aid, representing 0.116% of its GDP, while 0.020 billion euros has been allocated to financial assistance, 0.038% of its GDP. The lion's share of Lithuania's support has been given to military aid, with 0.405 billion euros, representing 0.772% of its GDP.
This level of support is especially commendable given Lithuania's size and proximity to Russia. While other states may have been more hesitant in supporting Ukraine, Lithuania has been an exemplar in showing its commitment to the Ukrainian people during this difficult time. The nation has demonstrated that it will not be deterred by the actions of a larger and more powerful neighbor but rather that it is capable of standing up for its beliefs and taking a moral stand.
