“Caring for IDPs” chat bot helps displaced Ukrainians integrate into their new communities

A new app called "Caring for IDPs" has been launched in Ukraine.

Ukraine's Ministry of Reintegration press service reported that the app is developed for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Ukraine.

What is the problem?

The full-scale war Russia started on February 24, 2022, has driven many Ukrainians from their homes. The UN refugee agency estimates 6 million people are internally displaced due to heavy shelling and fighting. Because of the widespread destruction of their homes and businesses, many Ukrainians have to relocate to new communities to start over their lives. 

What is the solution?

Many Ukrainian IDPs have become vulnerable to new challenges that war and relocation brought, and this new solution helps them to push through and integrate into new communities. 

The new chatbot that provides needed information for displaced Ukrainians is developed by the Crimean Tatar Resource Center within Join! Public Activity Promotion Program, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by Pact in Ukraine.

How does it work?

The chatbot offers information about housing in the new region and a list of documents needed to apply for IDP status and state aid.

The application will help displaced Ukrainians find out how and where to get help, addresses and phone numbers of health centers, etc.

All topics in the chatbot are grouped under the relevant sections.

Currently, the chatbot is available for IDPs who relocated to Ukraine's capital Kyiv, and the western cities of Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Chernivts. Still, the project is to expand to more new towns and regions.
