Ukrainian PM and European Commission head discuss Ukraine’s restoration and export challenges in London

Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal, who was in the British capital for the coronation of Charles III, held talks with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.

The government official said that he thanked the head of the European Commission for macro-financial support and assistance in the recovery of Ukraine.

"I have raised the issue of the export and transit of Ukrainian agricultural products through EU countries. In particular, the difficult situation that arose at the checkpoint with Poland. We must find joint solutions to overcome this challenge and ensure food security in the world, which Ukraine is the guarantor of," Shmyhal said.

He added that he expects further close coordination with the European Commission.

In her turn, Ursula von der Leyen reported that she discussed with the Prime Minister of Ukraine the need for reconstruction against the background of the corresponding conference, which is to be held in June in London.

It should be noted that the day before, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine sent a note to Polish colleagues concerning the protest action of Polish transporters, who have blocked the movement of trucks through the largest checkpoint, "Dorogusk-Yahodyn," since May 4.

Protesting transporters from the Polish side demands the restoration of the permit system for Ukrainian transporters. In addition, they require to ban the entry of Belarusian and Russian semi-trailers. The protest is registered until June 3.
