The situation on the Bakhmut front remains one of the most difficult. The enemy shelled the positions of the Ukrainian defenders 399 times a day. Defense forces eliminated 105 occupiers; another 104 were injured.

Serhiy Cherevatyi, the spokesman of the Eastern Group of Forces of Ukraine's armed forces, reported this on the air of the Yedyni Novyny telethon, Ukrinform informs.

"There (on the Bakhmut front – ed.) the situation is difficult, probably the most difficult today in all sections of the front, but it is under control. The enemy is striking, hitting our positions 399 times with different systems and calibers. 11 clashes took place, 105 occupiers were eliminated, 104 were injured, the Buk air defense system, three guns, one Gvozdika self-propelled gun, and two field warehouses with ammunition were also destroyed," the spokesman said.

Answering the question of whether the enemy will be able to capture Bakhmut by May 9, Cherevatyi noted that he had great doubts about this.

"Well, they are world champions and probably the Guinness record holders for setting deadlines; they set the first deadline back in July. A positional war is going on, very heavy fighting, but I would very much doubt it. They were not able [to capture Bakhmut – ed.] until May 1, and it's unlikely that they will be able to succeed further. I believe in the Defense Forces of Ukraine, and most likely, it will be unrealistic for them[Russians – ed.]," the spokesman believes.

Commenting on the massive enemy shelling of civilian objects in recent days, the spokesman emphasized that he considers this to be a sign of the enemy's desperation.

"When the enemy cannot achieve anything on the battlefield, he strikes our peaceful cities. And this is a sign of despair and revenge because they did not really show any military training, any achievements and did not show themselves as a worthy enemy," Cherevatyi emphasized.

For reference:
