As Russian invaders keep shelling Ukraine's southern Zaporizhzhia region, the town of Orikhiv is nearly destroyed.
Local authorities evacuated all children, Radio Liberty reports.
All children were taken out of the city of Orikhiv. Currently, we have no children staying in the city. There are 6 more left in the village of Novopavlivka, two families. We are currently working with them to perform evacuation, officials emphasized.
At this time, there are about 1,700 people left in the settlement, including Orikhiv and the three unoccupied villages of Novopavlivka, Novodanilivka, and Novoandriivka. Only about 1,400 people remained in the city.
Currently, the biggest threat is guided aerial bombs, which the Russian army sends every day to the front-line unoccupied territory of the Zaporizhzhia region.
These are very large 500-kilogram, 1,500-kilogram bombs, which have a very large destructive power. In the city, almost 80% of the houses and the private sector have been destroyed or damaged today, the deputy mayor of Orikhiv concluded.
