First full-service Ukrainian restaurant opened in Washington
Ruta, Washington's first full-service Ukrainian restaurant, is now open on Capitol Hill, Axios reports.
The restaurant's menu includes traditional Ukrainian dishes: borscht, varenyky dumplings, golubtsi (stuffed cabbage), Chicken Kyiv (stuffed chicken) etc. There is also a children's menu.
We hope to be a part of restaurant diplomacy," says Anna Volynets, a spokesperson for Ruta.
We want to be a place where you can learn about Ukrainian culture and food, and see how beautiful it is.
Ruta is dinner-only, but will expand hours for brunch soon — plus live music and events with Ukraine House.
Ukrainian food, which shares flavors and traditions with Eastern European neighbors is all served in the bright dining room and patio near Eastern Market.
At the beginning of 2022, Ukraine's Ambassador to the USA, Oksana Markarova, announced that the opening of the city's first restaurant of Ukrainian national cuisine is planned in Washington.
The diplomat emphasized that there is a demand for Ukrainian cuisine in the American capital.
