Solution to win: Ukraine launches free drone school for teenagers
Ukrainian charity fund "Victoria" opened a school in eastern Poltava to teach young people to maintain drones.
What is the problem?
During the war, it is useful to have skills that could be used to help the Ukrainian defenders. No matter how hard it is psychologically, Ukrainian teenagers do not give up.
Living the experience of war at the same level as adults, they are ready to do everything to bring victory closer and help Ukraine to endure and recover. The ability to control drones is also important. After all, it can be used for reconnaissance and transfer data to the defenders.
However, it is not possible to get a training course everywhere, and even for free.
What is the solution?
Such classes are hosted in schools of the region free of charge as part of the "Drone School for Youth" project from the charity foundation "Victoria," says its director.
Lithuanian volunteer Anatolius Len helped start the school. One of the first classes took place at the lyceum of the Tereshkiv community.
We got to know each other through mutual acquaintances, learned that he (Anatolius – ed.) studied at a pilot school in Kyiv, and is also actively interested in drones. And we decided – why not, why not start such a project?
Our task now is to show young people that this is cool. It's up to them to decide whether they want to work in this particular direction, says Victoria Gonchar, rector of the "Victoria" charitable foundation.
How does it work?
The trainings are divided into three blocks:
- the theoretical part, where the instructors talk about the classification of drones and their construction,
- exercises on a computer simulator,
- practical classes, where teenagers can try to fly a drone on their own.
