Ukrainian air defense downs eight out of ten Russian drones launched in night defense

Russia launched ten Shahed kamikaze drones on Friday night to attack Ukraine — the latest of Russian air strikes targeting energy infrastructure and civilians.

In the morning briefing, the General Staff of Ukraine's armed forces reported that Russian forces used Shahed-136-type drones, adding that Ukrainian defenders destroyed eight of them. However, the information is still being clarified.

The Kyiv City Military Administration reported that eight Russian targets were detected over Ukraine's capital and shot down on the approach.

"With the onset of darkness, the terrorist country launched drones from the northern direction," the administration stated. "According to preliminary information, the Muscovite aggressor probably used a new batch of Iranian Shahed UAVs. About eight enemy targets were detected and shot down on the approach to the capital."

The city authorities didn't report any civilian victims or destruction. The information is being clarified.

The administration of Ukraine's central Poltava region reported a night attack by Russian drones that damaged a civilian infrastructure facility.

Dmytro Lunin, head of the Poltava Regional Military Administration, reported on the Telegram messaging app that rescuers are putting out the fire that broke out after the attack. As for now, no civilian casualties have been reported.

Russian continues daily attacks and shelling of the front-line regions. The Russian aggressors fired 49 rocket rounds from multiple-rocket launching systems at the positions of our troops and populated areas during the last 24 hours. Dead and wounded are reported among the civilian population, and destroyed and damaged private residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure.
