The Mykolaivvodokanal municipal utility company reported this on the official website.
"The European Investment Bank has approved the allocation of additional credit financing in the amount of 20 million euros for developing the water supply and drainage system in Mykolaiv. The main goal of the project is to restore the city's water supply infrastructure and provide Mykolaiv citizens with clean water supply and restore sewage facilities," the message says.
Current works include the reconstruction of water treatment facilities in Mykolaiv, the first stage of the Mykolaivvodokanal water pumping station, and the construction of a storage facility for long-term sediment storage at the treatment facilities.
"Because of the war, our city needed water even more acutely. We are grateful to European partners, such as the EIB and the EU, for their steadfast support and help in improving our city and the quality of basic services," Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Sienkovych said.
In turn, the head of the EIB's representative office in Ukraine, Jean-Eric de Zagon, noted that since the first days of the full-scale war, the EIB has been supporting Ukraine, responding to the urgent needs of its people, as well as continuing work on current projects.
"Within the Ukraine Municipal Infrastructure Program framework and in coordination with our Ukrainian partners, we strive to ensure an uninterrupted and reliable supply of clean water for Mykolaiv and modernize the city's treatment facilities with maximum energy efficiency," Jean-Eric de Zagon emphasized.
The project in Mykolaiv is part of the current loan agreement of the EIB – the Ukraine Municipal Infrastructure Programme (UMIP). With credit financing of 400 million euros, this multi-sector investment program is implemented by the Ministry of Community Development, Territories, and Infrastructure in cooperation with the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine.
As reported, the water supply system in Mykolaiv is completely worn out due to salt water and needs to be replaced entirely.
