Netherlands grants €100 mln to Ukraine to aid farmers and prepare for winter
Through a World Bank mechanism, the Netherlands is providing 100 million euros in guarantees to finance agricultural businesses in Ukraine and generators to help the country survive the coming winter.
As ANP reports, this was announced at the spring meeting of the World Bank in Washington by the Minister of Foreign Trade and Development of the Netherlands, Liesje Schreinemacher.
According to her, the 100 million euro aid is the first implementation of the 2.5 billion euro that the Netherlands pledged to Ukraine earlier this year to support reconstruction, most of which will be spent on military support.
"€40 million will be used specifically for agricultural companies so that they can still buy grain this season or replace agricultural equipment that has been destroyed," Schreinemacher said.
She pointed out that this will help the Ukrainian agricultural sector and global food security, as Ukraine exports a lot of grain.
The rest of the 100 million euros is intended for the purchase of generators and other purposes, such as road repairs. Schreinemacher could not say exactly what the extra funds would be used for and noted that civilian demining is a priority for the Netherlands.
