Ukraine's Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov calls on the democratic world to put the issue of Russia's transformation on the agenda.

The head of the defense department wrote this on Facebook following the results of his speech at the Black Sea Security Conference of the International Crimean Platform in Bucharest.

"The issue of Russia's transformation must be on the agenda[…] Russia must become a democratic federation. Go through denazification, extradite criminals, and compensate for the damage. Otherwise, there will be no trust.

There must be a common position, including one fixed through a system of powerful sanctions, that without transformation into a true democratic federation, Russia will not be able to restore relations with the civilized world," Reznikov noted.

The minister emphasized that the free world should change the paradigm of its actions in the context of repelling aggression, possess a strategic initiative, and be ready to act quickly and preventively.

He also emphasized that there is no alternative to Ukraine in NATO because "a system of safeguards is needed to minimize the desire to solve something by force."

"Any models or conversations about security in the region that do not include the liberation of Crimea from Russian occupation are illusions. We must say goodbye to these illusions. We must not deceive ourselves that there are any other options. They do not exist. Therefore, in the context of Crimea, there should be only one perspective – how to liberate?" the head of the ministry also wrote.

Reznikov also emphasized that prolonging or "freezing" the war is against the region's interests.

"The region will lose momentum while others develop. Therefore, the common interest is to achieve a breakthrough on the battlefield in 2023. For this, Ukraine needs quick support in a sufficient amount," the minister emphasized.

The head of the department also announced that he met with NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană on the sidelines of the conference.

They discussed current projects, particularly NSPA's systematic participation in the modernization of defense procurement in Ukraine.

"We are preparing several very specific initiatives for the Vilnius NATO summit," Reznikov announced.

Before that, he also announced that in 10 days, he had visited Athens, Nicosia, Madrid, and Bucharest together with the ministry's team.

"There were fruitful meetings with my colleagues – the Minister of Defense of Greece, Nikos Panayotopoulos, the Minister of Defense of Cyprus, Michalis Georgallas, the Minister of Defense of Spain, Margarita Robles, the Minister of Defense of Romania, Angel Tilvar and their teams. The goal remains the same – weapons and other forms of support that strengthen the Defense Forces of Ukraine," Reznikov noted.
