Ukraine limits fireworks and pyrotechnic products, citing environmental and public health concerns

On April 11, members of the Ukrainian parliament, Verkhovna Rada, supported a draft law that strengthens control over the use and circulation of pyrotechnic products.

MP Yaroslav Zhelezniak reported about law No. 7438 on Telegram. 

The law prohibits using, selling, and transferring fireworks, salutes, and firecrackers in the country.

Two hundred ninety politicians voted for such an innovation in the law.

In turn, MP Oleksii Honcharenko noted on his Telegram channel that there are exceptions to the ban.

The rule of the use of pyrotechnics doesn't apply to:

• Armed Forces of Ukraine,
• the National Police,
• emergency and rescue services.

Draft law No. 7438 was registered in the parliament on June 6, 2022.

The initiative's authors emphasized that the sounds and lights from pyrotechnics, reminiscent of explosions, harm people's psychological health during the war. It also damages the environment and hurts animals.

On August 8, 2022, the MPs adopted it as a basis (250 votes); on April 11, 2023, they adopted the draft law as a whole (290 votes).

Vinnytsia city law enforcement officers detained a 45-year-old resident who was setting off fireworks on New Year's Eve. After a report from the witnesses of the event, he was searched for half an hour.
