Ukraine estimates over $12 bln in environment damage from russia in Luhansk region

Damages from the russian crimes against the environment of the Luhansk region reach more than $12 billion (UAH 475 billion), the head of the Luhansk regional military administration reports.

The State Environmental Inspection Department in Luhansk Region shows the occupiers have partially destroyed the forest fund of the Luhansk region on an area of more than 26,000 hectares since the beginning of the full-scale war.

"To date, the inspection has recorded 45 crimes against the environment of Luhansk region committed by the russian troops incurring losses in the amount of UAH 475.112.573,537," the statement says.

The total amount of damage reaches over $4 billion (UAH 180 billion).

The territory of the nature reserve fund was damaged as a result of the fires.

The invaders' use of heavy weapons and phosphorous munitions prohibited by the Geneva Convention, as well as Solntsepek heavy flamethrower systems, damaged infrastructure, industry, and critical facilities.

It contaminated land plots with remains of ordnance, equipment, and premises. The fires at the facilities contaminate the air.

• premises and territories of energy facilities;
• shopping and entertainment centers;
• markets;
• educational institutions;
• industrial facilities.

The damages from the destruction of the premises and equipment of Sievierodonetsk Azot PJSC already reach over $6 billion.
