Poland established T-64 tank repair centre for Ukraine

Ukrainian T-64 tanks will be repaired at the Bumar-Łabędy armored tank plant in Poland, Polish news outlet PGZ reports.

Bumar-Labędy and Ukraine's state concern Ukroboronprom have jointly established a technology center that will:

• repair,
• maintain,
• keep operational,
• restore T-64 tanks.

Cooperation in the maintenance of T-72 and PT-91 tanks, which were transferred to Ukraine by Poland, is also planned in the long term. 

Bumar-Labędy is considered to become a service center for Leopard 2 tanks, which were delivered to Ukraine by the international tank coalition.

"The plant's more than 70 years of experience in both production and overhaul, repair, retrofitting and modernization of armored vehicles will be a key help in maintaining the defense capability of the Ukrainian army. Thanks to regular repair and maintenance, the equipment in operation will regain its full combat readiness," said Edita Szymanska, head of Bumar-Łabędy tank plant.

The current cooperation in servicing T-64 tanks is another one in a series of agreements concluded between the Polish and Ukrainian sides.

President Volodymyr Zelensky's visit to Poland this week, an agreement on cooperation in the joint production of 125-mm tank ammunition, and a letter of intent to sell Rosomak-wheeled armored personnel carriers to Ukraine were signed.
