Latvia to offer psychological support course for Ukrainian border guards

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Latvia will conduct a psychological support course for officers of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine in Jūrmala.

The European Pravda writes about this, referring to the LETA agency.

As reported in the publication, Latvia plans to provide psychological support to the border guards of Ukraine. Physical education classes will be held for them, and three meals a day will be provided.

For this, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Latvia asks for an additional 59,000 euros of financing.

During the course of psychological support, Ukrainian officers will participate in individual psychological and sports activities in groups and individually.

In total, it is planned to involve up to 100 Ukrainian State Border Guard Service employees in the program. The first group of up to 40 people is expected in Jurmala already in June 2023; the Latvian side will provide vehicles to transport Ukrainians from the Ukrainian-Polish border and back.

It is reported that the base of the Health and Sports Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the country, which is intended to help Latvian officials, will be used for psychological support of Ukrainian border guards in Latvia.

For reference:

In 2022, 130 wounded soldiers were transported to Latvia and provided with medical assistance at the Riga Eastern Clinical University Hospital and the "Vaivari" National Rehabilitation Center.

In 2023, according to the Ministry of Health of Latvia, they plan to accept 120 Ukrainian service members.

The Government of Latvia has provided military support worth EUR 370 million to Ukraine, and the Latvian society and nongovernmental sector have donated EUR 8.3 million and EUR 3 million, respectively, since the beginning of russia's full-scale war. Additionally, volunteers from Latvia have joined the foreign legion of Ukraine's army. Latvia has demonstrated its commitment to supporting Ukraine by making these significant contributions.
