The world "woke up" after seeing russia's atrocities in Bucha – Zelensky

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky said the world "woke up" after seeing russia's war crimes in Bucha, near Kyiv.

This was part of a speech at the commemoration on the occasion of the anniversary of the liberation of the city from the russian invaders, Ukrinform reports.

"A year has passed since the day when russian occupiers were banished from our city of Bucha. Cities that the world didn't know about at that time. Cities that the world will never forget. We will not let you forget. Human decency will not allow us to forget," the head of state emphasized.

The world saw russian evil without disguise and saw what the kremlin "tried to bring to other streets of Ukraine, other streets of Europe and the world, which could be lost by the russian occupiers, if not for the Ukrainians."

The President emphasized the Ukrainian people stopped "the greatest anti-human force of our time, a force that despises and wants to destroy everything that gives meaning to a person."

"Why does russia kill? Why does russia abuse, torture, and terrorize? It seeks to destroy the dignity of people so that a person means zero so that an ordinary person in the territory controlled by the kremlin is only dust under the feet of those who hold power," he said.

According to Zelensky, this is what happens in russia today.

"Tt will never be like that in Ukraine, in all of Europe, on the land of each of the peoples who defend freedom, as we do today, defending freedom together with us," he is convinced.

The President stressed: "Bucha became that city, seeing which after the russian occupation the world really changed, the world really woke up."

For more than 400 days, the Ukrainian people have been repelling the genocidal full-scale aggression of russia, and in this, we are helped by friends — people who "just like us, believe that life, human life, is the highest value."

Zelensky thanked all the people who support Ukraine, the leaders of the countries present at the commemoration in Bucha, and every state represented at today's events.

"The battle for the free world is taking place on our Ukrainian land. We will definitely win this battle. russian evil will fall right here, in Ukraine, and will not be able to rise again. Humanity will win. But humanity should remember every Ukrainian city whose heroism and resilience give a future to everyone who values life," the President said.
