Slovakia's PM promises to help Ukraine reclaim its territories, join EU as soon as possible

The Prime Minister of Slovakia, Eduard Heger, assured that his country would help Ukraine to join the EU as soon as possible and regain control over the temporarily occupied territories.

He said this during a speech in Bucha, Kyiv region, as part of the event marking the city's liberation from russian invaders, Ukrinform reports.

Heger noted that Ukraine's President, government, and citizens have demonstrated how courageous people should be in the 21st century, choosing such values as freedom, human rights, and democracy.

"Ukraine deserves to be a free democratic state. That's why you'll benefit from our full support. I would like to state here that Ukraine belongs to Europe, Ukraine is Europe, and Ukraine should be a member of the European Union. We will help you as much as possible to join the EU as soon as possible. You will receive our support in regaining your territories and your freedom because you deserve it," the Prime Minister of Slovakia assured.

As reported, Slovakia, in particular, provided military aid to Ukraine for 10% of its defense budget and is considered among the top ten countries in the world by this indicator. In particular,  Slovakia was among the first to provide Ukraine with the necessary weapons and military equipment, including anti-aircraft defense systems, MiG-29 aircraft, armored personnel carriers, and self-propelled artillery installations. Borys Kollar, the speaker of the National Council of Slovakia, and the vice-speaker were at the Ukrainian-Slovak border just two days after the russian aggression began, actively assisting in the acceptance of Ukrainian displaced people. Deputies of the Slovak Parliament also sheltered Ukrainian families.

On March 31, President Volodymyr Zelensky, Prime Minister of Slovakia Eduard Heger, Slovenia's Prime Minister Robert Golob, Croatia's  Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, and President of Moldova Maia Sandu visited Bucha to honor the memory of innocent victims killed by russian invaders.

Zelensky noted that Bucha became the catalyst for the world waking up to the devastating consequences of the russian occupation of Ukraine.

Maia Sandu stressed that democracies must collaborate to investigate and punish these atrocities.
