The Alligator boiler, which operates on solid household waste, won the Sikorsky Challenge 2022 festival of innovative projects, which took place in Kyiv, STARTUP SCHOOL reports.
What is the problem?
Environmental awareness is necessary for life, work, and production conditions: not all natural resources will serve man forever.
Harmful emissions into the environment directly affect the Earth and lead to problems our descendants will face.
Every step of a modern consumer requires mindfulness based on a perspective of the future.
What is the solution?
Modern solid fuel boilers heat the coolant using renewable resources and wood processing products — fuel blocks, pellets, and firewood.
Such a system will help make the house practically autonomous and, at the same time, reduce the consumption of resources from minerals.
The Alligator heat boiler won the "Infrastructure and industrial high-tech" nomination and received a $5,000 development grant from the GIST program.
How does it work?
"Alligator" is a water heating boiler-utilizer, which allows you to dispose of garbage and obtain cheap heat energy environmentally.
It works on traditional fuel (coal, peat, firewood), combustible solid household, and industrial waste (rubber, plastic, leather, textiles).
The high temperature of gasification and combustion guarantees the destruction and disinfection of the used fuel.
The design of the boiler allows the use of fuel of any fraction, even car tires of the appropriate diameter. At the same time, emissions meet European standards, the blog of the Sikorsky Challenge startup school notes.
Potential consumers of the utilizer can be:
- Enterprises that have combustible waste
- Enterprises with large energy consumption
- Energy-generating enterprises
- Communities interested in the environment
The energy obtained from waste incineration can provide hot water to multi-apartment buildings. The cost of 1 KW of thermal power ranges from UAH 1.2 to UAH 0.1.
