Chairperson of Ukrainian parliament calls on Britain to support Ukraine’s bid for NATO membership

The Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian Parliament), Ruslan Stefanchuk, addressed the members of the House of Commons and the House of Lords of the Parliament of Great Britain and called for support for Ukraine's application for membership in NATO.

He wrote this on Facebook.

Stefanchuk emphasized that Great Britain demonstrated the uniqueness of its role in supporting Ukraine.

"Great Britain was the first in Europe to provide Ukraine with lethal weapons. It provided us with its tanks. It started training our military. And this greatly contributes to our resistance to the enemy," Stefanchuk said.

At the same time, he emphasized that it is necessary to "move on."

"Ukraine must get medium-range aircraft and missiles. This is necessary for victory on the battlefield," the Head of the Verkhovna Rada noted.

He also enumerated several important issues for Ukraine. In particular, support for the Peace Formula of President Volodymyr Zelensky, legal and political pressure on the aggressor (sanctions, international isolation of the russian federation, and the creation of a special tribunal for the crime of aggression), the restoration of Ukraine, as well as membership in NATO are among the necessary issues.

"I called on Great Britain to become part of the consensus to support our application and start planning Ukraine's accession to NATO now," the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada said.
