Ukraine will gradually replace all landfills with recycling plants – ecology minister

Ukraine should get rid of landfills, replacing them with waste incineration and waste processing, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Ruslan Strilets.
"All landfills must be closed, recultivated, and forgotten as a nightmare," he told Ukrinform in an interview.
The minister admitted that this is a prospect for many years ahead because Ukraine first needs to create the appropriate infrastructure for waste management.
"As of August 2022, we have already scanned the entire territory of Ukraine and identified 207 locations on the map where such objects can be created. These are investment cases: any investor can come and build a suitable enterprise there," said Strelets.
One such facility will appear on the territory of the Boryspil community, Kyiv region, where land has already been allocated and financing from international financial institutions has been found. Waste will be transported there from the surrounding settlements: Boryspil, Fastov, and Brovary. In total, there should be nine such facilities in the Kyiv region.
