Two bridges leading to Kyiv restored in Chernihiv region
Two bridges that lead to Kyiv were restored and opened near northern city of Chernihiv.
It will significantly speed up traffic and increase freight transportation, says Mustafa Nayem, Ukraine's Head of Agency for Restoration and Infrastructure Development.
What's the problem?
At the beginning of the full-scale war, russian invaders tried to break through to the capital through the north border in the Chernihiv region.
The enemy destroyed more than one river bridge.
A year ago, the aggressors turned Chernihiv into an island by dropping an aerial bomb on the last bridge over the Desna River. It was the only link to the left bank in the direction of Kyiv.
Since russia's full-scale war, 27 bridges have been destroyed on the state roads of the Chernihiv region alone — the most among all the currently de-occupied regions.
What's the solution?
The restoration of full traffic across each of the bridges is extremely important for the humanitarian situation in the region.
The State Restoration Agency is focused on capital reconstruction of bridges on strategically important routes of the Chernihiv region.
How does it work?
Two bridges on the roads leading to Kyiv have already been rebuilt near the regional center of Chernihiv.
The first bridge was built over the Bilous River on the M-01 route Kyiv — Chernihiv — Novi Yarylovichi. It provides transport links between Chernihiv and Kyiv via the bypass and, in particular, is the main route for freight traffic.
The second bridge is laid across the Zhovid River on the route P-69 Kyiv — Vyshhorod — Desna — Chernihiv. This is one of the 3 metal modular bridges the French company designed specifically for the Chernihiv region as part of the humanitarian mission.
"The restoration of full-fledged traffic on the bridges on the R-69 and M-01 roads in the complex makes it possible to establish a high-quality connection between Chernihiv and communities on the opposite side of the Desna River and between Chernihiv and Kyiv," Nayem said.
