Estonia-funded modular kindergarten installed in Zhytomyr region
A modular kindergarten is being built in the city of Ovruch in the Zhytomyr region in Ukraine's northwest. This is the first project of the international reconstruction program in the region, which will be built from scratch.
The news was announced by the head of the Zhytomyr Regional Military Administration, Vitalii Bunechko.
What is the problem?
The residential areas of Ovruch became a target for the russians from the first day of the war. On the territory without military facilities, russian aviation dropped dozens of aerial bombs. As a result, russian shelling destroyed critical infrastructure facilities, residential buildings, kindergartens, schools, energy facilities, and grain warehouses.
Many villages of the Zhytomyr region were left without educational institutions, making it more challenging for local children to receive an education.
What is the solution?
The answer was the initiative of the Estonian government and local authorities to reconstruct educational institutions rapidly. One of the projects has been modular kindergartens, one of which is now being built in the city of Ovruch. The kindergarten is designed for 160 children and 20 employees. Its total value is almost one million euros. Most of the costs were borne by the Estonian government.
"I am sure we now have a good opportunity to implement the most relevant European projects and technologies, using the experience of our Estonian friends and other European colleagues," Bunechko said. "The new kindergarten next to the administrative service center destroyed by russian aerial bombs will be a clear example of the excellent cooperation between our states and vivid evidence that Ukraine will not only win this war but will also become an even more developed modern European country!"
How does it work?
The modules of the future building were delivered to the construction site from Estonia a few days ago. The modules arrive with all the necessary equipment: furniture, household appliances, playrooms, and toys. Currently, the installation of structures on the prepared foundation is underway.
As Estonian experts assure, modular kindergartens are a new concept of children's institutions that has appeared in recent years. The main advantage of such kindergartens is their complete adaptability to current conditions, compliance with all-inclusive and energy-saving standards, and, most importantly, durability. The structures are designed for at least 50 years of service.
Such structures are environmentally safe for children and ready for installation immediately. Also, the kindergarten will be equipped with a kitchen, a dining room, and a large bomb shelter for all preschoolers and staff of the institution.
