Chinese leader may offer putin schemes to evade sanctions – ISW

At the meeting, the President of China, Xi Jinping, and the president of the russian federation, vladimir putin, will probably discuss schemes to circumvent sanctions and mediation in ending the war in Ukraine through negotiations.

The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) wrote about this in its review.

Analysts report that on March 1, the self-proclaimed president of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, met with Xi Jinping.

Analysts say they signed a package of 16 agreements that could help russia evade sanctions.

ISW also recalled reports in the media about Chinese companies selling russian organizations rifles and spare parts for drones and equipment that could be used for military purposes.

In turn, Western special services stated that the Chinese leader was considering the possibility of providing russia with lethal weapons.

It should be noted that the kremlin announced that Xi Jinping would visit russia on March 20-22. It was stated that "during the negotiations, urgent issues of further development of relations of comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation between russia and China will be discussed."

Citing sources, The Wall Street Journal reported on March 13 that Chinese leader Xi Jinping plans to speak with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. This is the first time since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of russia. The conversation is likely to take place after he meets with putin in moscow.

The Chinese leader is expected to hold an online meeting with Zelensky. In this way, China wants to show Beijing's efforts to play a more active role in mediating the end of russia's war against Ukraine.

China's "peace plan"

It should be noted that China recently published a 12-point document detailing its position regarding russia's war against Ukraine. In the document, the war in Ukraine is called the "Ukrainian crisis."

Among other points, there are the following:

• cessation of hostilities,
• resumption of peace talks,
• termination of unilateral sanctions,
• "maintaining the stability of industrial chains and supply chains."

The Ukrainian authorities replied that they did not agree with all points. However, they noted that China at least started talking about Ukraine.
