Eco-solutions: Ukrainian brand Rekava creates ecological glasses and pots from recycled coffee grounds

The Ukrainian brand Rekava is preparing to release disposable, biodegradable cups and pots from recycled coffee grounds.

"Epravda" reports this.

What is the problem?

Ukrainians are very fond of tasting coffee. But disposable plastic coffee cups cause much damage to the environment.

What is the solution?

It was necessary to come up with something biodegradable.

Yurii Tustanovskyi and Dmytro Bidyuk developed the technology of processing coffee grounds for three years. It allows for making cups, plates, spoons, and forks.

How does it work?

"Our Rekava disposable, biodegradable cups are an innovative product with no analogs in the world. After all, they are suitable for hot and cold drinks, made without plastic, biodegradable without creating specific conditions, and easily compostable at home and in industrial conditions," the startup says.

Rekava also makes pots for seedlings, which can be planted together in the soil.

The primary material is coffee grounds; secondary raw materials from corn, eggshell, and other natural components are also used.

Depending on the weather, the glasses decompose in one and a half to three months. They can be disposed of as fodder for domestic animals, fertilizers, or pellets for heating.

Another Rekava product is scented candles with the scents of Ukrainian cities. For example, Kherson has the aroma of watermelon, and Luhansk smells of apricots.

For reference:

It should be noted that Ukrainians use 40-90% fewer plastic bags after introducing a fee for such bags.
