EU may approve ammunition plan for Ukraine as soon as next week
The European Union may sign a plan for the joint purchase of ammunition for Ukraine as early as next week; the details are being discussed.
Bloomberg writes about this with reference to sources familiar with discussions taking place within the bloc.
EU member states have yet to indicate how much new money they are prepared to put up this year and how such funds would be structured.
Some nations would like to see mandatory funding proportionate to the size of each state's economy, while others want any contributions to be voluntary.
Also, the EU cannot decide how to provide Ukraine with 155-mm shells, which it already needs this year. Currently, there are about 15 manufacturers of 155-mm shells in 11 countries in the EU. However, there is still no firm estimate of how much the industry might increase capacity over the next few months.
