Ukraine launches social media campaign promoting cultural heritage

Ukraine's Ministry of Culture launched an informative social media campaign on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of Ukraine's ratification of the UNESCO Convention on the Protection of Cultural Heritage.

What is the problem?

Amid the war, Ukrainians are looking for ways to solidify their identity, set their culture apart from other cultures, especially russian, and show others how unique their national culture is. On the ministry's Facebook page, Minister of Culture Oleksandr Tkachenko says, "Ukraine's intangible heritage is unique and inimitable. That's why you need to know about it."

What is the solution?

On the occasion of the 15th anniversary of Ukraine's ratification of the 2003 UNESCO Convention on the Protection of Cultural Heritage, the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine is launching a social campaign called "Not by borshch alone," referring to the famous Ukrainian national dish.

How does it work?

Ukrainians are invited to post photos of Ukrainian intangible heritage — their region or a favorite object — on social media.

You can familiarize yourself with the list of intangible heritage elements by following the links:

The ministry also encourages using hashtags in publications. It is suggested to use #НематериальнаСпадщинаУкраїни #НеБорщемЄдиним meaning #UkraineIntangibleHeritage and #NotByBorshchAlone.
