Crimean Tatar singer Jamala becomes Ukraine's first Spotify EQUAL ambassador

The Crimean Tatar singer Jamala became the first Ukrainian ambassador of the "EQUAL global"  music platform under the auspices of Spotify.

The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy press service noted that the EQUAL program from the Spotify Streaming Service had been created to promote women's equality in the global music industry. The project consists of EQUAL and related programs broadcast in 187 countries.

"This year, Spotify has chosen the first Ukrainian ambassador for the global playlist and the first in its history of "Equal Ukraine." This ambassador is the Ukrainian singer and songwriter, the winner of" Eurovision-2016 ″ Jamala, "the message reads.

As noted, Jamala's track Take Me To The Place from the mini-album Call" opens two musical collections simultaneously.

"I fought for any right in my life – a right to be myself, a right to create. But now I, like thousands of women in Ukraine, am fighting for the right to live at home. Today we are an example for each other, a model of endurance and invincibility. That is why I would like to share the honor of being the "EQUAL" ambassador with every Ukrainian woman who, despite missile shelling and blackouts, is so fearlessly fighting for the freedom to live in a free country where the voices of all Ukrainian women sound on an equal footing, "the artist said.

"Equal Global" and "Equal Ukraine" lists of tracks are already available for Spotify users.

Jamala also took part in the creation of playlists, recommending the tracks of Ukrainian artists, including –

  • ONUKA,
  • Alina Pash,
  • Alyona Alyona,
  • Kola,
  • GO-A band,
  • The Hardkiss band,
  • Tonka band.
