Rivne, the first and only city in Ukraine, received a European grant in the amount of 38 million hryvnias for the fight against climate change.

According to  Rubryka, the city mayor Oleksandr Tretiak announced this.

What is the problem?

Climate change is a significant and long-lasting change in the statistical distribution of weather patterns when that change lasts for an extended period of time: from decades to millions of years.

Ukrainian cities are not adapted to dynamic climate changes.

What is the solution?

EU financed a grant of 973,000 euros, provided under the two-year program NetZeroCities.

How does it work?

Together with 52 other European pilot cities, Rivne will implement innovative measures for adaptation to climate change and rapid decarbonization.

Such measures include:

  • creation of the energy passport of the community;
  • development of scenarios for the city's transition to "zero" CO2 emissions by 2050;
  • training and promotion of energy efficiency through educational institutions.

According to Tretiak, Rivne will be able to improve transport, modernize buildings, energy systems, waste management, etc.
