Solution to win: Briton to cycle from London to Ukraine to fundraise for demining

Tom Hashemi, a British citizen, is gearing up to ride 2,000km from London to Lviv in the west of Ukraine to raise money to help clear landmines in the war-torn country.

The Lviv City Council reports that.

What is the reason?

The land where fighting occurs in Ukraine is thoroughly contaminated with dangerous explosive devices.

To date, the Mykolaiv region is one of the most polluted by explosives among the de-occupied territories of Ukraine. According to experts, the total area of the region, probably contaminated with mines and unobtrusive ammunition, is almost 2614 thousand square kilometers.

What is the solution?

Tom Hashemi, the CEO of the communications agency Cast from Clay, working in London, wants to organize the ride across Europe.

"I am organizing a cycle from London to Lviv. This is about 2000 kilometers. I will do this to raise funds for demining of Ukrainian territory. My company operates both in London and Lviv, so this route is not accidental," he said.

How does it work?

Tom's bicycle on which he will ride is pained in the colors of British and Ukrainian flags. The trip will start on April 28, and Tom plans to overcome the entire distance in 14 days.

His idea has two goals.

The first is to collect 20,000 pounds. This will help remove about 40 unobtrusive mines and shells.

The second is to attract politicians' attention to Ukraine and strengthen cooperation between the United Kingdom and Ukraine at the local level.
