Pope Francis will pay an official visit to Hungary from April 28 to 30, 2023.

The three-day trip includes meeting Ukrainian refugees, Vatican news reports.

On Saturday, April 29, the Pope will pay a private visit to blind children who receive help at the László Battyani-Strattman center. He will meet with Ukrainian refugees and the needy in the church of St. Elizabeth of Hungary.

On Sunday, April 30, Pope Francis will celebrate Holy Mass in Lajos Kossuth Square in the morning. In the afternoon, he will have a meeting with representatives of science and culture in one of the branches of the Catholic University, after which he will return to Rome.

The Pope visited Budapest on September 12, 2021, where he celebrated the final Holy Mass of the 52nd International Eucharistic Congress, after which he flew to Slovakia.

Since it was not possible to make a full-fledged Apostolic journey then, he promised to make it later.

Ivan Paul II visited Hungary twice, in 1991 and 1996.

Since the start of the full-scale war in Ukraine, nearly 1 million Ukrainians  have travelled through Hungary as refugees.
