Moldova officers arrested two suspected in coup plotting
The Information and Security Service of Moldova (SIS) suspects an agent network involving citizens of Moldova and other states in acts of treason and espionage.
It has already been possible to detain and send two suspects to custody. They are believed to be involved in the preparation of a coup in the state.
The Information and Security Service of Moldova (SIS) reports this.
"Five citizens of Moldova are under investigation, two of them were detained and placed in custody in December 2022, and the remaining three are under the status of suspects", the officers explained.
These actions might be qualified as a "hostile activity against the Republic of Moldova."
It is about destabilization and attempts to change the constitutional order in the state through violence. According to the criminal law, acts of treason are punishable by imprisonment for a term of 12 to 20 years.
"We investigate actions that began in 2020, both planned and partially implemented actions related to the promotion of money transfers, incitement of inter-ethnic enmity, incitement of destabilizing sentiments and intolerance towards certain categories of citizens, including recruitment of people to participate in mass actions, prone to before turning into acts of violence in favor of foreign countries", authorities added.
Earlier before Ukrainian intelligence intercepted russia's plan to destabilize the political situation in Moldova.
