At the end of 2022, Bukovel LLC applied to two village councils – Polyanytska (Ivano-Frankivsk region) and Ust-Chornianska (Zakarpattia). The purpose of the application is to begin preparation for the construction of two more resorts – "Bystrytsia" and "Turbat".
In other words, Kolomoisky and his associates not only did not abandon their intention to build the huge "Svydovets" resort, but they also plan to develop the neighboring mountains – the Bratkivskyi Ridge and the forests around the U'rya mountain – with trails, lifts, and hotels.
The announced "Svydovets" resort in 2016 is expected to accommodate up to 28,000 people at once. The plans include 1,400 hectares of land, over 30 cable cars, 230 km of ski runs, 700 hectares of hotels and other development.
The resorts "Turbat" and "Bystrytsia," announced in 2022, are no less ambitious. Together, they cover another 1,400 hectares, with capacity for 25,000 people at once, over 200 km of ski runs, and 28 lifts.
All three planned resorts are located next to each other and will be connected to the existing Bukovel resort. This means that a monster-sized resort is planned, designed to accommodate over 65,000 people at once! For comparison, this is like building an entire city in the middle of the Carpathians, larger than half of Uzhgorod.
All mentioned village councils have given green light to the proposed resorts. Currently, the necessary documents for construction are being prepared. This year, we may witness the start of construction work and the beginning of a disaster.
Why a disaster? Because the ecological consequences of building such a monster resort will undoubtedly outweigh any short-term benefits. For example:
● At least three thousand hectares of wild Carpathian forests, meadows, and rivers will be destroyed or damaged. In reality, much more. According to existing maps, the construction, ski runs, and lifts will pass through protected areas, habitats of numerous endangered plants and animals, unique mountain lakes of Svydovets, and so on.
● Only the "Svydovets" resort alone uses almost 9 thousand cubic meters of water and the same amount of wastewater every day. With two resorts announced in 2022, the total will be close to 15 thousand cubic meters daily. To achieve this, a series of Carpathian rivers (including the Black Tisa) will have to be massively exploited by building reservoirs and water intakes there. Considering that even the highland residents felt the drought in 2022 and Bukovel has not solved its wastewater problem for many years, the consequences are obvious.
