Finland to decide on Leopard 2 tanks transfer to Ukraine on Thursday
On February 23, Finland is to decide whether it will participate in the supply of Leopard battle tanks to Ukraine.
According to the RBC-Ukraine, this issue will be resolved at the Government Council, and will be considered as a proposal of the Ministry of Defense of Finland.
It was assumed that Finland would participate in helping Ukraine with the supply of Leopard tanks or repair other combat vehicles. Defense Minister Mikko Savola said at the end of January that Finland would participate in the supply of tanks.
However, a large number of combat vehicles should not be expected because Finland has a long land border with russia, so Leopards are important for the country's defense.
Earlier, Finland's Prime Minister Sanna Marin stated that the decision to send German-made Leopard tanks to Ukraine has not yet been made.
For reference:
Finland has about 200 German-made battle tanks at its disposal.
Earlier, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Finland, Pekka Haavisto, stated that Finland was preparing a new military aid package for Ukraine.
