Zelensky announces new aid package from Italy
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, announced receiving a new aid package from Italy.
This was reported by the Italian TV channel Rai.
"We received a new aid package, which means that Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's support has not changed," Zelensky said.
The President added that within the framework of military aid from Italy and European allies, a decision is expected regarding the air defense system to ensure the possibility of protecting Ukrainian power plants. He also emphasized the necessity of mutual assistance from the entire European continent.
At the same time, the head of the Ukrainian state said that he would be glad to welcome Meloni warmly when she decides to visit Ukraine, ANSA reports.
The president thanked Italy for its constant support after the invasion of the russian federation and admitted that Rome's position on Kyiv has not changed, despite the controversial critical comments against the Ukrainian president by former Prime Minister and leader of the "Forza Italia" ("Forward, Italy") party Silvio Berlusconi.
"I thank Italy here (in Ukraine — ed.), and I am waiting for her (Meloni — ed.). I know she will come (soon — ed.)," Zelensky said.
Giorgia Meloni previously announced the intention to visit Ukraine before the first anniversary of the russian invasion.
For reference:
The largest group in the European Parliament, namely the European People's party, canceled the visit to Naples after the unacceptable statements of the former Prime Minister of Italy, Silvio Berlusconi, who blamed the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, for russia's invasion. Also, he accused Ukraine of "attacking Donbas" and called for an end of support for the Ukrainian army. The Office of Prime Minister Georgia Meloni reacted to this statement, emphasizing that Italy firmly supports Ukraine in the fight against russian aggression.
