US Secretary of State and President of Türkiye discuss supporting Ukraine

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan discussed supporting Ukraine in its defense against russian aggression and emphasized the need for closer cooperation on bilateral issues, including defense, energy, trade, and collective security.

This is stated in the press release of the US State Department.

"US Secretary of State Antony Blinken reaffirmed the commitment of the United States to provide the necessary assistance to our NATO ally Türkiye and expressed his condolences to all those affected by the earthquakes. The two leaders also discussed supporting Ukraine in its defense against russian aggression. They emphasized the need to work more closely on bilateral issues, including defense, energy, trade, and collective security," the press release reads.

As the Republic of Türkiye Directorate of Communications noted, the meeting took place at the Ankara Esenboga Airport. Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and US Ambassador to Ankara Jeff Flake attended the meeting.

During the visit to Ankara, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that Washington appreciates Turkey's role in supporting the territorial integrity of Ukraine as well as in the work of the "grain corridor" and considers the application of the Montreux Convention to be essential for the protection of the Black Sea and the coastal territory of Ukraine.
