Ukrainians develop EU highway toll payments app
Ukrainian developers have created the first application in the EU that allows a person to pay tolls on toll roads in advance, according to "Rubryka"
What is the problem?
"After driving on a toll road without buying a vignette, you can pay a big fine if stopped by the police. The situation is exacerbated by not knowing the language of the country. In addition, in Europe, the process of buying a vignette is not always convenient and digitized. The eTOLLs application aims to simplify this procedure," – developers explain.
What is the solution?
According to the application's developers, eTOLLs is designed for Ukrainians who have been forced to leave abroad or are planning a trip to Europe and for Europeans planning a vacation or business trip. You can use the application anywhere in the EU. Vignettes can now be purchased for toll roads in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Romania, Austria, Bulgaria, and Hungary. In time, the number of countries will expand.
How does it work?
The eTOLLs program can help you pay tolls, bypass queues for cash payments, and make advance payments for traveling on a toll road. In addition, the application contains all the necessary information about tariffs. In the next iteration, it will be possible to lay a route from point A to point B conveniently. The application will show paid sections of the route and how much it will cost.
Buying a vignette is simple: enter the car number, check the information, choose the country to travel to, add contact information, choose a convenient payment method, and actually buy the vignette. Also, in the future, the application will have a social component. Negotiations with charitable foundations are still ongoing. It will be possible to voluntarily transfer a certain amount to a donation for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In future updates of the app, the creators promise discounts on vignettes in exchange for safe driving (the founders are ready to bonus diligent drivers at their own expense and thereby popularise the culture of safe driving on the roads).
The Ukrainian developers that worked on the eTOLLs EU application are the founders of the Fines UA service for checking and paying fines. The development of the new program started in June 2022, and the official launch took place in February 2023.
Fines UA is a service that started the digitization of fines in Ukraine. National service for checking penalties for drivers of Ukraine, which helps control the process of checking and paying fines for traffic violations. With the help of the service, in 2022, fines in the amount of more than UAH 67 million were paid. Two hundred twenty-three million hryvnias were paid for the entire service period. To date, it has been downloaded by more than 2 million users.
